THREE FRIENDS

Mike, Joe and Alex were friends since the university. They spent together lots of time, get over lots of problems, drank lots of beer, cought lots of fishes and met lots of women. But one day they found out they aren’t in their thirties and that they are getting old. They found themselves wives. Naturally, since this moment they didn’t meet so often and unfortunately their marriages weren’t much happy and maybe it was because they were used to live alone and do whatever they wanted at anytime.
One day Alex sat in a kitchen. Just an hour ago he was argueing with his woman and he was remembering at the days when he was single. And at this moment he got one of his great ideas. He called Joe and Mike and explained them what he wanted to do. He wanted to make a big trip like when they were younger. But the most important was that it will be their secret. That they will not say to their wives the true. It will be like when they lived with parents.
They had just one day for preparing, because Alex thought the way would be more exciting without planning. Every one of them packed one big luggage and fishing rod. Joe said to his wife: “Mary, I have to go on a business trip. My chef just called me. I’m sorry but we have to putt off our wedding day celebration.” His wife screamed and cried but then she said that he is right, he isn’t the youngest and he has to do all for keeping his job. Mike said at home that his mother is ill and that he has to visit her and take care about her. Alex only wrote short message on- posted it that he will not come home earlier then the next week.
They met on the square. Alex arrived in his beautiful old red cabriolet and Joe with Mike entered. They turned on music and left. They had never felt like this before. Or at least last ten years. They went fast and the wind tumbled Mike’s and Alex’s hairs and stroke Joe’s skinny head. Suddenly they saw beautiful beach. They stopped and left the car. There was a fine place for camping. “We could camp there”, said Mike. But first they wanted to take a walk around the hinterland. They saw small hill with trees on the top. They climbed up and looked round the outskirts. It was the most breathtaking view they had ever seen.
When they came back, they wanted to construct the tent. But they couldn’t find some. Alex was angry. Joe was angry. Mike trembled before them and strated to sorry. But it was too late. Alex said: “You forgot our tent?” and Joe said:”You spoilt our trip!” They in the same time take up the hatchet and killed Mike. Immediately they saw what did they done. They stood under the dead body for fourty minutes without speaking. Gradually they realized their horrible act. They buried the body in the forest and went back home.
After a while Mike’s wife (now widow) presented her new boyfriend on big family party. She said that she had never met anybody like him before.

THE BARBERY WHOSE UNCLE HAD HIS HEAD BITTEN BY A CIRCUS TIGER

Short story by William Saroyan

1)Why the boy had to be told by other people to get a haircut?

Probably because he has bushy curly hair and it is problem to cut it well. The last time he was in the barbershop it was over at the barber college across the tracs. He is a little poor boy so he went there because it was for free. It was at the beginning of the school year so the boy was cut by new barbers student. But this new haircut was that bad, he feared to go in this barbery again. After one month his hair grew like never before. “His head was too big for the world.“

2) What hints does the beginning of the story give about Aram‘s talents as a barber?
He didn’t has clients and his shop was empty all the time, so evidently he wasn’t known as a talented barber.

3)How did the barber receive his young customer?
He received him very heartily and kindly, offered him a coffee, told him to sit down and started to narrate a story about his uncle.

4)What did the boy think of the barber, and why?
He thought that the barber was wise, kind, and experienced. He found him remarkable and interesting.

5)Why did uncle Misak accept the job with the circus?
Because when he was a young and strong he didn’t economize and when he became older and he couldn’t earn money the same way he was poor. So he was wandering from Constantinopol to Vienna, to Berlin, to New York and around the whole world but all the time he nearly starved to death, he was lost, he was lonely and nobody wanted to help him. But when he went to China, he met an Arab from French circus. This man started to talk to him. Musak loved animals - and also he was starving - that is why he started to work there. I think that he was also influenced by his loneliness.

6)Why did the boy look forward to his next haircut?

The boy looked forward to the next haircut because he wanted to hear the story of barber’s uncle again, because he treated this story actual for every body.

7) Why did I like the book?
I liked the story very well, it was interesting. The story was an easy reading. What I found interesting about the story of Musak is narrating by a third person (by the boy). I also liked that even the story was about a sad and poor uncle, who died so distressfully, the reading was humorous.
